It can be difficult to tell if an unexpected call is genuine or not. Fraudsters are becoming increasingly sophisticated in the techniques they use to try and scam people, so it’s not always easy to spot the real from the fake. 

We’ve partnered with Debrett’s to create a guide to conversational techniques that could help you handle suspicious calls confidently, politely, and assertively - and stop a conversation with a scammer before it’s too late.

If you’ve ever been a victim of a scam, or had a ‘near miss’, you’re not alone. We asked 2,000 UK adults about their experiences with fraud, and found that they’re more common than you might suspect.
